Easy Ways to Give Back This Holiday Season
We took the kids to see Disney On Ice today and it was as amazing as we anticipated. The kids were SO excited to see their favorite characters and score some light-up toys and wands. Me and my husband were of course thrilled to see their faces fill with excitement as the show began. I’m sure many of my parent friends will agree that seeing your kids happy and healthy is all we truly care about.
For the last few years me and my husband have said as a family we need to give back more around the holidays. I always struggle with what to do and where to go because our kids are so young but this year I’ve decided we have to make it happen.
Coincidentally, last week out of the blue our 4 year old daughter told me she wanted to cut her hair to give to a little girl that didn’t have any. It broke my heart but also made me so happy and so proud. I realize now more then ever that we are SO SO lucky to have healthy children.
Did you know that childhood cancer is the number one cause of death by disease in children? And did you know that more than 40,000 children are treated for cancer annually nationwide? I sure didn’t. Yet still only 4% of government funding is given to support pediatric cancer. WHY?! As a parent I cannot imagine witnessing my innocent child fight for their life and I’m sure you feel the same. But WHAT can we do?
Let’s start by visiting Tackle Kids Cancer.
Tackle Kids Cancer raises funds and awareness for pediatric cancer patients and 100% of all donations benefit the clinical care, support services and research needed to find a cure.
There are SO many ways you can give back during the holiday season. But as a mother I feel compelled to give back to children in need. These innocent kids are struggling every single day just to live. These kids need people like you and me. EVERY donation no matter how big or small makes a difference.
One story that really resonates with me is Victorias. Victoria is 6 years old and has Leukemia.
Victoria reminds me of my daughter in so many ways. She loves animals both live and stuffed, gymnastics….and all the “friends” she made at the hospital. These simple things are exactly what my daughter loves. I can’t even begin to imagine how these parents get through their days.
Aside from donating to Tackle Kids Cancer this holiday season our children will also be gifting a toy to a child in need. There are so many children who don’t have homes and families let alone toys and games. I’m sure I speak for many when I say our children have more toys than they know what to do with.
Additional ways you can give back this holiday season while including your children
- Sponsor a family in need
- Volunteer at a food bank
- Donate hair for cancer patients
- Donate unwanted/unused toys – make it fun! Have your child pick out a toy to buy like my girl did above.
- Send holiday cards to soldiers
- Stuff a stocking for a child in need
- Donate gently used/new clothing to charities/shelters
