This past week we went to Great Wolf Lodge in Pennsylvania, a resort tailored to kids with an indoor water park, kids activities, storytime, and more.

Sometimes it can be tough finding indoor fun for kids, especially when the weather isn’t great. So I wanted to share our trip with you because Great Wolf Lodge is definitely a great option for days like those.

Although Great Wolf Lodge is a resort with tons of suite options, you can also visit with just a day pass if you’d like – you don’t have to be a resort guest. We went on a Thursday and it wasn’t crowded at all. The kids were able to run around and do all the activities they wanted without having to wait.

The Great Wolf Lodge water park has something for kids of all ages. Our kids are 6, 4, and 9 months, so we stayed in the “Whooping Hollow” kiddie area and wave pool for the majority of our visit. The kiddie area has slides suitable for young children and the water depth is very shallow.

Similar to the Whooping Hollow is the Cub Paw Pool. It also has tiny slides but also has “jet skis” and water cannons for the kids to play with. The water here is also only 1.5′ deep.

How much does it cost to stay at Great Wolf Lodge?

Rates for staying at the resort will vary depending on when you want to go and what room/suite you choose to stay in.

For example, if you wanted to stay at the resort next week from Friday to Sunday (2-night stay) with 2 kids and 2 adults in a Royal Bear Suite, the total comes to $1449 after adding the (roughly) $120 in taxes and $60 resort fee.

If you chose to stay the same nights in a Family Suite, the cost is roughly $1,155. It is important to note that the water park passes are included in your stay, but any attraction passes or dining plans are extra. Additionally, when checking out, you can pay for a late checkout for $59.

Great Wolf Lodge rooms aren’t cheap. At the end of this post, you’ll find some tips for saving on your stay.

What is included in your stay at Great Wolf Lodge?

As mentioned above, water park passes are included with your stay at the resort. The water park hours are from 10 am to 8 pm.

Check-in time at the resort is 4 pm, but if you get there early you can start using the water park at 1 pm. Check out is always 11 am, but you can continue using the water park until closing.

It is important to note that Pack ‘n’ Plays are available when confirming your reservation but are on a first come first serve basis. The sooner you book and reserve, the better your chances of getting one, especially during peak travel times. Each suite also comes equipped with a microwave, coffee-maker, hairdryer, and a small refrigerator.

I also just saw that the resort renovated all its suites. We stayed overnight last year and got a themed suite for the kids – they loved it!

You also have free wi-fi, access to the gym, life jackets, and some free entertainment such as storytime.

Great Wolf Lodge Pennslyvania Dining Options

The resort has plenty of dining options but inside the water park itself is a burger joint called Buckets as well as Grizzly Jack’s Bar & Grill. Buckets has burgers, fries, hot dogs, etc. Grizzly Jack’s has similar food but also offers options like crab cakes, corn, hummus, etc.

FYI – There is also Dunkin’ Donuts inside the resort just off the lobby as well as a candy shop!

Great Wolf Lodge Pennsylvania Attractions

We basically spent our entire visit in the water park, but if you’re planning to stay longer there are a ton of great activities. Currently, the resort is having their Summer Camp-In through September 2nd.

There will be pool parties, character breakfasts, barbecue buffets, stories around the fire, arts and crafts, competitions such as limbo, bingo, bean bag tosses and so much more.

Other indoor attractions include a bowling alley, interactive mining experience, arcade, digging experience, build-a-bear workshop, mini-golf, and more.

If you plan to visit during the warmer months, the resort also has an outdoor pool area and bar as well as rope course and play park.

Aside from the water park and indoor/outdoor attractions, there are also activities scheduled every day. Just be sure to check the daily schedule to see what’s happening during your visit.

Great Wolf Lodge Day Pass

Typically, a full-day pass during the week is $40 and a full-day pass for a weekend is $100. I don’t see any half-day passes available, but I’m thinking that might be due to COVID-19. I would imagine they are operating at a much lower maximum capacity.

Life jackets are available for all guests with a day pass and children under 2 get in free.

You cannot bring your own food and drink into the water park.

Great Wolf Lodge Groupon

If you’re looking for Great Wolf Lodge deals, and the dates of your stay are flexible, it’s worth taking a look at Groupon. Currently, there is a Groupon running for roughly 40% off with a 2-night stay minimum.

Groupon is also a great place to check for Great Wolf Lodge Reviews. There are over 5,675 reviews and 7,500 ratings.

If you’re interested in more reviews with photos, be sure to check out Great Wolf Lodge on Tripadvisor.

Great Wolf Lodge Promo Codes

I noticed on the checkout screen for day passes that there is a spot to enter a promo code, which means they obviously exist. Try searching on sites like RetailMeNot for discounts and promo codes before booking your stay.

I’m not sure why Covid-19 is mentioned except in passing, It is the most important thing for an indoor activity right now. I really would have found this post useful with information on how GWL is mitigating effects of the pandemic on guests.

This post was written several years ago. I don’t know enough details to give a full breakdown of their current safety measurements for covid.
