Hesitant to spend $100 on Spanx leggings? I TOTALLY get it, which is exactly why I’m writing this Spanx Leggings Review.

I want to make it easier for you to make your decision.

Years ago when I purchased my first pair of Spanx leggings it was after MUCH thought. Like…. a lot of thought.

$100? For a pair of leggings? I just couldn’t wrap my head around it.

But, I was in my thirties and still hadn’t found “that” pair.

The pair that looked great with everything, was comfortable AND was high quality.

The more I thought about it, I realized that I had spent $25 to $40 (ish) on several pairs of leggings that never ended up being “the one”, which totaled well over $100 anyway.

Long story short, after being influenced by MANY fashionistas on social media (and failing to find a cheaper version on my own) I decided to bite the bullet.

So, without further ado, here’s the scoop.

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings Review

All fashionistas know the popular brand Spanx.

They’re a powerhouse in the shapewear industry and their best-selling Spanx leggings are arguably the best leggings ever made.

While there are many Spanx products, today we’re going to focus on the original black faux leather leggings.

It is the brand’s most popular style and the style that has taken the fashion world by storm.

For personal reference, I am 5’4″, size small (or size 4 in bottoms), and have an athletic build.

I also have a long torso – something I’ll go into further detail on in just a bit.

Sizing

Should you size up in Spanx Leggings? Since we are speaking specifically about the Spanx Faux Leather leggings my answer is 100%, absolutely, YES.

The first time I ordered these leggings I ordered my normal size small.

They came in and as soon as I attempted to pull them up my legs I just knew – there was no way.

Could I have gotten them on? Sure. But they sure as heck wouldn’t have been comfortable.

Instead of returning them, I decided to exchange them for the size medium.

(Bonus – Spanx has a fantastic free return shipping/exchange policy).

I exchanged them for a larger size and hoped for the best.

When I got them in and put them on…. I was still a bit unsure. They fit, yes, but they were very fitted.

I told myself to give it a few wears and then I could make my final decision.

I’m so glad I did.

These leggings are now what I consider to be the holy grail of leggings.

They’re chic, AMAZING quality, flattering, and so so comfortable. Oh and bonus – they don’t give me a CT. The struggle is real.

The Length

Being 5’4″ the Spanx size chart recommends going with the “petite” length, however, I didn’t do that for fear that the crotch length would be too short.

While the “regular” length leggings work for me, I do have some extra fabric around the ankle.

The good news is, it can easily be concealed when tucked under. But, it is something to keep in mind if you fall on the border of petite and regular length.

According to Spanx if you’re 5’4″ or under you should wear the petite version.

Those that are 5’9″ and over should wear the tall inseam.

Anywhere in between the two should choose the regular length option.

For reference, the regular inseam stretches to accommodate up to a 34″ inseam.

Design & Compression

As mentioned previously, I have a long torso.

Finding leggings that have a long enough inseam without being too long overall is a serious challenge.

Additionally, having a long torso makes it hard to find “high rise” leggings that are truly high rise.

Generally, high rise or high-waisted bottoms fit me like a regular rise.

However, the Spanx Faux Leather Leggings are ULTRA high-waisted and come up fully over my belly button. Major plus.

If you’re looking for leggings with moderate compression Spanx Faux Leather Leggings fit the bill.

The compression paired with the contoured, power waistband provides ample tummy shaping (no muffin top!)and prevents any uncomfortable digging of material into your skin.

The no-center seam design is another major bonus of these leggings because it keeps you clear of the dreaded camel toe. Hallelujah.

Another huge advantage to Spanx’s faux leather leggings vs a pair of regular leggings is that there is no squat test needed. I can tell you with 100% confidence that Spanx leggings are absolutely squat proof.

In simpler terms, these leggings hug you in all the right places.

Quality & Care

Something that really needs to be noted is that Spanx leggings are of incredible quality.

They do have a sheen to them but it’s not a tacky, cheap-looking finish.

I will admittedly tell you that I have been wearing these leggings most days of the week for years and they are still in excellent condition.

This outfit above (or something like it) is pretty much my go-to outfit formula for the colder months.

How do you wash Spanx faux leather leggings?

These leggings can be washed in the washing machine in cold water only (inside out) on a gentle cycle to keep their sheen.

They also need to be hung to dry. As long as you follow the care instructions your leggings will last a very long time.

One of my favorite things about these leggings is that they are just so versatile.

FAQ’s

Why do Spanx Faux-Leather Leggings Roll Down?

Mine don’t and yours shouldn’t either.

If your Spanx leggings are rolling down it’s because your leggings are either too small or too large. Be sure to check out the size charts to ensure the right fit.

Spanx leggings are designed to help create a smooth and bump-free look.

As Spanx describes it, it’s like a firm hug. The compression is strong, but not overly restricting.

It helps to smooth out lumps and bumps while helping to show your shape.

It also helps to prevent muffin top and bulging while also concealing panty lines. They’re the perfect black pants for concealing any areas you’re self-conscious about

Do Spanx Faux Leather Leggings ever go on sale?

YEP!

Spanx is pretty regular with its sales which are generally Black Friday through Cyber Monday and also during the Nordstrom anniversary sale and Nordstrom half-yearly sale.
